Waterpox Season Alert - Stay Vigilant and Protect Yourself!

120412025-04-21

  1. Vaccination History: Since January 1, 2004, chickenpox has been included in the national vaccination program. However, university students may not have received the public-funded vaccination as part of their immunization, though some may have been vaccinated privately by their parents.
  2. Vaccine Efficacy: If you received the first dose, the immunity provided by the vaccine will decrease with age, and antibody levels will decline as you grow older. Current health policy recommends a second dose of the chickenpox vaccine at age 4-6, available at personal expense.
  3. Protection Rates: One dose of the vaccine is 70-90% effective in preventing infection and 95% effective in preventing severe illness from infection.
  4. Reinfection: The likelihood of reinfection is low, and individuals who have had chickenpox typically do not get it again.
  5. Transmission: Chickenpox is highly contagious, transmitted through direct contact and airborne droplets. The infectious period begins 5 days before the rash appears, making close contacts at high risk.
  6. Self-Monitoring: Monitor your health regularly, track any changes in body temperature, maintain good personal and environmental hygiene, wash your hands frequently using proper techniques, and ensure proper air circulation.
  7. Hand Hygiene: Use soap and water for washing hands, as alcohol-based sanitizers are ineffective against chickenpox.
  8. Environmental Cleaning: Use diluted bleach for cleaning. Please refer to the attached document for proper dilution guidelines.
  9. Early Symptoms: If you experience fever, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint pain, or other early signs, immediately report to the school and seek medical attention, informing your doctor of any known contact with someone with chickenpox.
  10. Confidentiality: Please adhere to infection control and privacy laws to protect individuals' personal information and rights.
