Medications Come in Many Forms
Have you ever noticed that the medications you receive often look quite different each time? Some come in solid forms, such as tablets, capsules, or effervescent tablets. Others are liquids, like solutions, syrups, or suspensions. There are also semi-solid forms, such as ointments and suppositories.
Effervescent Tablets:
Unlike regular solid medications, effervescent tablets must be dissolved in water before use. This causes a chemical reaction that releases bubbles (carbon dioxide). This type of formulation is often designed to improve patient acceptance, reduce gastrointestinal irritation, or avoid making the tablet too large to swallow easily.
● Oral Suspension:
Suspensions are liquid medications that contain undissolved solid particles. In many cases, you need to mix the powdered medication with a specific amount of water to prepare the suspension before use. Be sure to shake well before each dose and follow the prescribed amount carefully. These medications—commonly antibiotic syrups—are often chemically unstable, so some may require refrigeration after being mixed.
※ Important Reminders Before Taking Medication:
Since each medication may have different instructions for use and dosage, always read the label on the medication bag, packaging, or instruction leaflet carefully before taking it. If you're unsure how to take your medicine, be sure to consult your doctor or pharmacist to ensure safe and correct use.
